Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Punjab on February 1, 2026, to rename Adampur Airport in tribute to Sant Guru Ravidas Ji and inaugurate a new terminal at Halwara Airport in Ludhiana, the government announced on Saturday.
Arriving at Adampur Airport around 3:45 pm, the Prime Minister will unveil the new name: ‘Sri Guru Ravidas Ji Airport, Adampur,’ commemorating the 649th birth anniversary of the revered saint and social reformer. PM Modi’s visit also includes inaugurating the newly constructed terminal building at Halwara Airport, a key development aimed at strengthening civil aviation infrastructure in the state.

The renaming is a symbolic gesture recognising Sant Guru Ravidas Ji’s enduring legacy as a champion of equality, compassion, and human dignity—values that continue to inspire India’s social ethos. Widely respected for his central role in the Bhakti movement, Sant Guru Ravidas Ji emphasised social harmony and justice, especially for marginalised communities.
The new terminal at Halwara Airport will serve as a vital gateway for Ludhiana and its surrounding industrial and agricultural districts. This development enhances regional connectivity by allowing larger aircraft, such as the A320, to operate—an upgrade from the previous Ludhiana civil airport, which had a shorter runway restricting operations to smaller planes.
Aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision of sustainable and eco-friendly development, the terminal incorporates green technologies—including LED lighting, insulated roofing, rainwater harvesting, and water treatment systems that recycle water for landscaping. Its architectural design reflects Punjab’s rich cultural heritage, offering passengers a uniquely regional travel experience.
Halwara also holds strategic importance as the location of an Indian Air Force base, underscoring the airport’s dual civilian and defence significance.
The Prime Minister’s visit highlights the government’s continued focus on enhancing regional air connectivity and modernising infrastructure, particularly in economically significant states like Punjab.
